Accor Orient Express close to debut. Accor
is close to debuting its first Orient Express hotel with the Orient Express La
Minerva, Rome, expected to open by the end of 2024. Accor unveiled
plans to relaunch Orient Express hotels in 2017 after acquiring a 50% stake in
the brand from French national rail company SNCF Group, and Rome was announced
as the first location. Following Rome will be Express Palazzo Donà Giovannelli,
Venice in Italy and the Orient Express Diriyah Gate, Riyadh Saudi Arabia, in
2025. Accor has also partnered with luxury behemoth LVMH to accelerate the
development of the Orient Express brand for trains, cruises and hotels.
US performance in May slightly up. Hotel
performance in the U.S. improved in May from the previous month, according to
the latest data from CoStar. In May, occupancy was 65.7% (up 1.5% from May
2023), ADR was $160.40 (up 2.4%), and RevPAR was $105.46 (up 4%). Among the top
25 markets, New York City led in all three key performance metrics: occupancy
(up 5.8% to 88.9%), ADR (up 6.3% to $339.25) and RevPAR (up 12.5% to $301.57).
Detroit (61%) and Minneapolis (61.5%) had the lowest occupancy of the top 25
markets.
Hilton growth and development. Hilton
is scheduled to open its first hotels in Nepal, Laos and Timor-Lester in the
third quarter and debuting brands like Motto by Hilton in the southeastern U.S.
and Canopy by Hilton in Japan. The company also announced 11 new properties
opening in Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam and is scheduled to have more than
1,000 open hotels in the region by 2025.
Canadian hotel performance peaks in May. Hotel
performance in Canada in May hit its highest level in eight months, according
to the latest data from CoStar. For May, occupancy was 69% (up 0.2% from May
2023), ADR was CAD206.39 (up 4.5%) and RevPAR was CAD142.32 (up 4.8%). Among
the provinces and territories, British Columbia recorded the highest occupancy
level (74.3%, up 3.3%), while Vancouver saw the highest occupancy (83.8%, up
1.2%) among major markets. The lowest occupancy among provinces was Prince
Edward Island (54.5%, down 9.5%), while Calgary had occupancy (67%, down 1.9%)
among major markets.
Columbia adds 2 in Idaho. Seattle-based
Columbia Hospitality has added two properties, the Hotel Ketchum and Tamarack
Lodge, in Sun Valley, Idaho, expanding the company’s presence in the city.
Aspen, Colorado-based HayMax Capital owns both properties.
First Curio Collection in Croatia. Hilton
is opening its first Curio Collection in Croatia with the 54-key Keight Hotel Opatija,
Curio Collection by Hilton. The opening represents Hilton’s 40th country and is
operated by Zagreb, Croatia-based Zagreb City Hotels, which currently operates
three Hilton-branded hotels in the country.
Ruby adds in the Netherlands. Munich,
Germany-based Ruby Hotels will open its second hotel in the Netherlands with
the 225-key Ruby Rotterdam. The hotel is being converted from an existing
office building and will be created by developer Foruminvest. Ruby has 18
hotels open with nine in its pipeline.
Andras House secures funding.
Belfast, Northern Ireland-based Andras House has secured £7 million (€8.28
million) in funding for the 83-key Marcus Hotel Portrust, which is the
company’s largest hotel investment outside of Belfast. Hilton will operate the
hotel under the Tapestry Collection by Hilton brand. Andras House has seven
hotels with over 1,000 rooms in Ireland.
Frasers Hospitality to debut in Taiwan.
Singapore-based Frasers Hospitality is debuting in Taiwan in a partnership with
Taiwanese real estate developer Hongtai Group for the 200-key Fraser Residence
Taipei. The serviced apartments are scheduled to open in 2027 and mark Frasers’
increased presence in North Asia. It owns and manages over 100 serviced
apartments and hotel residences in over 20 markets.
Suntrust funding for casino hotel.
Manila, Philippines-based Suntrust Resort Holdings has received a $17 million
loan from its parent company to develop its $1 billion casino hotel in
Parañaque City. The 475-key casino hotel is scheduled to open in 2025.
