Playa resort coming to Riviera Maya in Mexico will feature
Kimpton’s F&B expertise; CIO calls the brand a ‘perfect fit.’
RIVIERA MAYA, Mexico – Playa Hotels & Resorts was
looking for a high-end boutique hotel brand with a strong focus on food and
beverage for its new all-inclusive set to open early next year in Riviera Maya,
Mexico, and Fernando Mulet said Kimpton
Hotels & Restaurants was the perfect fit.
“We hit the ground running with IHG,” Playa’s executive
vice president and chief investment officer told Hotel Investment Today. “With the Kimpton Tres Rios, we’re
confident we can deliver a truly unique experience for the luxury all-inclusive
segment, seamlessly blending the hotel’s distinctive natural elements with the
exceptional service and inclusions Playa Hotels &Resorts is known for. Our
goal is to create a product that stands out from other all-inclusive offerings
in the region, and we’re thrilled to welcome this brand to our portfolio.”
Playa will manage the Kimpton Tres Rios, the first
all-inclusive resort from the Kimpton brand. Set on a private beach, the 326-acre
luxury property will feature 355 accommodations, three distinct ecosystems home
to 90 animal species, 120 plant species, hidden cenotes, scenic ecological
trails, and seven dining concepts.

The resort’s 355 guest rooms range in size and view with
over 20 categories, including adults-only suites and ocean view swim-out suites
with direct access to a plunge pool from the balcony.
Restaurants include Asian fusion Kotori, Sabina for Mexican
cuisine, and five premium bars and lounges.
“Kimpton is known for its creative dining concepts, and we
wanted to ensure that each F&B outlet on property offered a distinct
experience, engrained with local culture, artistry and ambiance to truly
elevate the guest experience and welcome travelers with luxury service and the
warmth of the region,” Mulet added.
With reports surfacing of a slow-down in all-inclusive performance,
Mulet said this property is positioned with an enhanced cultural experience, prioritizing
the use of natural and responsible materials, sourcing local materials and
handcrafted elements that pay homage to the cultural heritage and traditions of
the region.
“We wanted to blend modern sophistication with the deep
culture of the Riviera Maya to create a sanctuary where luxury and nature
coexist, and every detail of the property has been thoughtfully curated,” said
Mulet, who did not answer questions about forecasted average rate and occupancy
for the first year. A press releases stated a special grand opening rate is set
at $249 per person.
“We’re thrilled to be getting closer to the opening of
Kimpton’s first all-inclusive resort, a special milestone for our pioneering
brand,” said Leanne Harwood, senior vice president and managing director for
Luxury & Lifestyle Americas at IHG Hotels & Resorts. “With our partners
at Playa Hotels & Resorts, we know Kimpton Tres Rios will become a true
oasis in the vibrant Riviera Maya and offer an array of expansive experiences
for all who stay.”
Playa continues to grow its all-inclusive portfolio in the
Caribbean and Latin America, currently owning and/or managing 24 resorts (8,627
rooms) under multiple brands and partners that include Hyatt Hotels Corp.,
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International and IHG.
