Legal
fight for Greenbrier. TRT Holdings, which owns Omni Hotels & Resorts and now owns the debt of the
Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia and U.S. West Virginia Senator Jim Justice,
whose family has owned the resort for years, have made the first moves in what
should be a contentious legal fight for the property, according to a story in
The Dallas Morning News. Robert and Blake Rowling, the father-son duo who are
in charge of TRT Holdings, purchased the first lien debt on the Greenbrier,
including the resort, for nearly $290 million and have asked a federal court to
take control of the resort away from Justice, who has owned
it since 2009. The Justice family filed a lawsuit in a West Virginia court,
accusing the Rowlings and others of conspiring to seize the historic resort by
“unlawful and deceptive means.” According to the story, the parties met at The
Greenbrier earlier this month but didn’t reach an agreement. A federal court
will hear evidence on May 11 to determine if the Justice family must turn the
property over to TRT Holdings.
