$650M loss. More than 30 industry associations representing
hotels across the country sent a letter to the leaders of the U.S. House of
Representatives and Senate urging them to end the government shutdown. According
to an economic analysis, each day of the government shutdown costs the
economy $31 million in activity that would’ve been generated by hotel
stays. To date, AHLA estimates that the hotel industry alone has lost $650
million in business.
Canada keeps booming. Canada’s hotel occupancy and RevPAR in
September grew year over year for a fifth consecutive month, according to
CoStar data. Occupancy was 74.0% (+0.2% YOY); ADR was CAD237.20 (+4.2% YOY);
and RevPAR was CAD175.55 (+4.4% YOY). Among the provinces and territories,
Newfoundland and Labrador reported the largest occupancy lift (+15.5% to
79.6%). Manitoba registered the highest increases in ADR (+13.5% to CAD189.03)
and RevPAR (+29.0% to CAD146.75). Among the major markets, Edmonton saw
the largest gains across each of the key performance metrics: occupancy (+6.6%
to 62.2%), ADR (+13.6% to CAD164.70) and RevPAR (+21.1% to CAD102.41).
Conrad to Corfu. Hilton has signed a franchise deal with the
Troulis family to develop the Conrad Corfu. Slated to open in southern Corfu
ahead of the 2026 summer season, the luxury hotel will feature 136 rooms,
suites and villas, a 200-meter beachfront and indoor and outdoor heated pools.
Managed by Numo Hotels and Resorts, the property will also include a signature
Aqua Piazza lagoon. Hilton’s Greek portfolio has more than 65 hotels either
trading or in the pipeline.
Two MGallery for Japan. MGallery, Accor's boutique
collection of hotels, has signed the Madarao Kogen Hotel and Lime
Resort Myoko in Japan. Both properties are part of a strategic partnership
with Patience Capital Group, a real estate and private equity investment
management firm investing in tourism-related assets across Japan. The 80-room Madarao
Kogen Hotel will first undergo a comprehensive transformation with its
reopening anticipated in late 2027. The 38-room Lime Resort Myoko –
MGallery Collection will be created from an existing property located near the
base of Mt. Myoko and open by Winter 2026.
