Rosewood
opening standalone residences in Mexico. Hong Kong-based Rosewood Hotels
& Resorts is opening its first standalone private estate with the Rosewood
Residences Old Lighthouse in Los Cabos, Mexico. The 550-acre project will have
144 residences and private amenities, including restaurants, a beach club and a
private golf course. Rosewood is partnering with the Coppel family on the
project, which will have its first sales phase in late 2024.
Host
closes on 1 Hotel Central Park. Bethesda, Maryland-based Host Hotels & Resorts has
closed on the $265 million acquisition of the 234-key 1 Hotel Central Park
from Starwood Capital Group. The sale of the New York City hotel, which was
previously reported, closed on July 12. Starwood will continue to operate the
property under a 25-year management agreement.
IHG adding two Crown Plazas in Sydney. IHG
Hotels & Resorts is adding two Crown Plaza hotels in Sydney as part of a
portfolio agreement with Frank and Wade Huang of New South Wales,
Australia-based Star Millennium Pty. Ltd. The 196-key Crowne Plaza Macquarie
Park is scheduled to open in early 2025 after a renovation, transitioning from
a Courtyard by Marriott. The 252-key Holiday Inn Sydney Airport will be
rebranded as Crowne Plaza Sydney Airport in September. Sydney-based Trilogy
Hotels will manage both hotels.
Georgia
hotel sells. Rock
Hill, South Carolina-based Warren Norman Co. has sold the 99-key Hampton
Inn Atlanta-Fairburn in Fairburn, Georgia, to John Leonard for an undisclosed
amount. Marcus & Millichap facilitated the deal.
Bob W,
OCIM fund to convert assets to aparthotels. Helsinki-based hospitality operator Bob W and
London-based Osborne+Co Investment Management (OCIM) have launched a £120
million equity raise to acquire and repurpose hotel and office assets into
high-quality short-term serviced apartments. The fund will mirror OCIM’s
European footprint of offices, targeting markets including Ireland, Portugal,
Spain, Poland and the U.K. The joint venture plans to transform 20-25 buildings
into 1,500-2,000 apartments and targets a GDV over £400 million for its initial
development pipeline. The JV expects its first assets to be operational within
18 months.
Catalonia
acquires in Spain. Barcelona-based Catalonia Hotels & Resorts has acquired the 105-key Vincci
Málaga hotel in Málaga, Spain, from Barcelona-based Hotel Investment Partners
(HIP) for an undisclosed amount. This is Catalonia’s first hotel in Málaga. It
has 77 hotels and resorts and 3,000 rooms in more than 25 locations worldwide.
It expects to add another hotel in a historic building in Puerta del Mar by the
end of 2024.
First
Sponsor acquires in Sydney. Singapore-based First Sponsor has acquired Sydney’s City Tattersalls
Club in Australia for A$24.7 million ($16.7 million) and is planning to
redevelop it into a 50-story residential and hotel project. The property, which
will include 241 apartments, an upscale hotel, and an event space, is being
developed by Singapore-based City Developments Ltd. and Melbourne-based ICD
Property.
Princess
adding two in Jamaica. Spain-based Princess Hotels & Resorts Group is opening two new
resorts in Jamaica in September. The Princess Senses The Mangrove will be an
adults-only all-inclusive resort, while the Princess Grand Jamaica will be an
all-inclusive, family-friendly resort.
Accor
adding in Wenzhou. Accor Greater China has signed a dual-branded project on Banping Island in
Wenzhou, China, featuring the debut of Peppers Edge – a new regional guesthouse
brand extension of Australia-based Peppers. The 235-key Peppers Edge hotel will
be paired with a 135-key MGallery luxury resort hotel, and both are expected to
open in late 2027. MGallery has five open hotels in China, with five more
opening this year.
GHA
reports strong Q2 performance. Dubai-based Global Hotel Alliance reported room nights
growth of 13.4% in and up 17.3% year to date as part of its second-quarter
results. GHA said its total first-half revenues of 2024 were $1.3 billion
versus $1.1 billion in the first half of 2023. It also said its loyalty program
enrollment increased by 20% in the second quarter to 27 million members.
