The
signing comes as Hilton reaches the 1,000th-hotel milestone in luxury and
lifestyle.
MCLEAN, Virginia — Hilton has announced plans to open a nearly 180-key
NoMad hotel inside Detroit’s Michigan Central Station as part of its continued
push into luxury and lifestyle hotels.
The luxury hotel will be developed through a partnership with
Detroit-based Ford Motor Company, which acquired Michigan Central Station in
2018. The hotel, which is scheduled to open in 2027, will be part of The
Station at Michigan Central, a former passenger rail terminal that’s being
redeveloped with 1.2 million square feet of commercial space across multiple
restored historic buildings.
Hilton acquired NoMad in 2024 and plans to grow the brand rapidly. In
addition to the NoMad Detroit, Hilton said it has 15-plus deals in various
stages of development globally. Those plans include the 173-key NoMad
Singapore, which is scheduled to open in 2027. Those properties will join the
NoMad London, which opened in 2021.
Hilton said the project will involve a “careful renovation” of the
station, which ended rail service in 1988 and has largely been vacant since.
“NoMad has built a reputation for developing hotels that take
inspiration from the history, art, design and culture that make a place unique,
and NoMad Detroit is poised to be no exception,” said Andrew Zobler, founder
& CEO of Sydell Group.
Hilton’s luxury and lifestyle growth
With recent openings in Paris, Cape Town, Dallas, Osaka, Costa Rica,
Jordan, and more, Hilton’s luxury and lifestyle brands have opened their
1,000th hotel globally. This milestone follows a record year of growth for
Hilton, punctuated by strategic partnerships, acquisitions and nearly 100,000
rooms added to Hilton’s portfolio. Hilton has almost 500 luxury and lifestyle
hotels in the pipeline.
Hilton has accelerated the addition of luxury and lifestyle hotels. The
company expects to add three luxury and lifestyle hotels per week through 2025,
with more than 150 openings planned worldwide this year.
Hilton has approximately 1,000 luxury and lifestyle hotels globally
across several brands, including Curio Collection, Tapestry Collection, Waldorf
Astoria, LXR, Conrad, Graduate, Canopy, Signia, Motto and Tempo.
Upcoming openings include the Waldorf Astoria New York, Waldorf Astoria
Rabat Salé in Morocco, Conrad Athens The Ilisian in Athens, Greece and Conrad
Hamburg in Germany. Hilton is also opening the first LXR Hotels & Resorts
in India and debuting its Curio Collection by Hilton in Thailand.
