Everwood acquires in Wisconsin. An affiliate of
Everwood Capital Partners has acquired the 241-key Hyatt Regency Green Bay and
KI Convention Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin, from an affiliate of Hyatt Hotels
Corp. for an undisclosed price. The hotel will undergo a comprehensive renovation
and will now be managed by Scarlett Hotel Group. Everwood and Scarlett merged
earlier this year.
Kempinski names new CEO. Geneva, Switzerland-based
Kempinski Hotels has appoint ed Barbara Muckermann as CEO. Muckermann
previously led Silversea Cruises (part of Royal Caribbean Group), the world’s
largest ultra-luxury and expedition cruise line. She has over 25 years of
hospitality experience with luxury and travel brands like Loro Piana, MCS
Cruises and NCA.
US performance mixed. U.S. hotel performance was mixed
in April compared to the previous month, according to the latest data from
CoStar. For April 2024, occupancy was 65.2% (up 1.2% year-over-year), ADR was
$157.31 (up 0.8%) and RevPAR was $102.51 (up 2.0%). Among the Top 25 markets,
New York City experienced the highest levels in each of the three key
performance metrics: occupancy (up 2.8% to 84.4%), ADR (up 2.6% to $298.98) and
RevPAR (up 5.5% to $252.46). Markets with the lowest occupancy for the month
included Detroit (58.9%) and Minneapolis (59.3%).
Hampton Inn in Atlanta sold. Hollywood, Florida-based
AD1 Global has sold the 111-key Hampton Inn Atlanta-North Druid Hills to
Atlanta-based Skyland Trail for an undisclosed price. Atlanta-based Hunter
Hotel Advisors assisted with the sale. Skyland Trail is a nonprofit mental
health treatment organization that acquired the Hampton Inn to expand its
current main campus, which is contiguous with the property.
First Banyan Tree in Caribbean. Miami-based Rockwell
Island Development Group (RIDGE) is opening the Banyan Tree Bimini Resort &
Residences in Bimini, Bahamas. It will have 50 rooms and 54 residences, the
first five of which will be delivered in early 2025. Banyan Tree is overseeing the
resort management and rental program for private residences.
IHG debuts in Turks & Caicos. IHG Hotels &
Resorts will debut its first three hotels in Turks & Caicos. The hotels
will be developed in partnership with the owner, Glasgow-based Molo Hotel Group,
and the manager, Lighthouse Hotel Management. The 59-key InterContinental Turks
& Caicos, the 192-key Kimpton Turks & Caicos and the 56-key Hotel
Indigo Turks & Caicos are all scheduled to be open by 2027. Molo Hotel
Group, privately owned by the Slominski family, has seven hotels worldwide,
with five in the pipeline.
Tivoli adds in Italy. Lisbon, Portugal-based Tivoli
Hotels & Resorts is expanding in Italy with the 86-key Tivoli Palazzo Gaddi
Firenze Hotel in Florence. Formerly an NH Collection hotel, it is scheduled as
a Tivoli Hotel in June. It will be the second Tivoli hotel in the country.
PM Group adds in Virginia. Chevy Chase, Maryland-based
PM Hotel Group is adding the Staybridge Suites by IHG Tysons in McLean,
Virginia. PM now operates approximately 70 hotels and resorts in the U.S.
Sentral adds in Vegas. San Francisco and Denver-based
Sentral has added the Otonomus Hotel in Las Vegas. The hotel is slated to open
in early 2025 and is the first of a new, AI-driven, sustainability-focused
hotel concept.
Sonesta signs 15 in Q1. Newton, Massachusetts-based
Sonesta International Hotels Corp. signed 15 franchise agreements across
several of the company’s brands during the first quarter.
The Hotel Group adds in Seattle. The Hotel Group (THG),
an affiliate of Alpharetta, Georgia-based Hotel Equities (HE), has added the
225-key Four Points by Sheraton Seattle Airport South to its portfolio. THG
manages and/or owns 140 properties in 25 states over 20 brands.
Hard Rock issues statement about Star Entertainment
reports. Hard Rock International released a statement regarding reports
about a proposed purchase of the Star Entertainment Group Limited (Star) in
Australia. “We want to make it clear that Hard Rock International is not
involved in, nor has it authorized any discussions, activities or negotiations
on its behalf in connection with a proposed bid for Star. Hard Rock
International has similarly not authorized the use of the Hard Rock brand in
connection with any proposed bid for Star by any third party.” Earlier this
week, several reports said Star was considering a takeover bid by Hard Rock.
Outlook for summer travel by Americans. A new survey by
the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) found that 61% of Americans
plan to travel overnight for leisure in the next four months, and 34% of
Americans expect to increase their overnight leisure travel this summer
compared to last year. The survey also found that 31% said they plan to
increase their hotel stays this summer compared to last summer. Some 35% of
Americans said they expect to take an overnight business trip in the next four
months, and 16% said they plan to increase their level of business-related
travel this summer.
