Latest news: Connecticut sale; adaptive reuse in San Antonio, RIU debuts in Canada

Connecticut hotel sale. Fairfield, Connecticut-based V2 Capital Management has acquired the 129-key Even Hotel Norwalk in Norwalk, Connecticut, from New York City-based 6R Capital Group for an undisclosed amount. Hunter Hotel Advisors facilitated the transaction. The Even Hotel Norwalk is adjacent to Merritt 7 Corporate Park, the largest corporate park in Fairfield County. 6R Capital Group said it originally acquired the hotel as part of a larger portfolio transaction and the property just completed an extensive PIP.

Adaptive reuse in San Antonio. Laredo, Texas-based International Bank of Commerce (IBC) Bank plans to turn one of its downtown office buildings into a 300-key hotel, according to an application filed with the city of San Antonio. The estimated cost of the project would be $140 million. It would be one of several high-profile office conversions in downtown San Antonio, with several locations being converted into apartments.

Iowa hotel sale. PGSAH Des Moines LLC, which is managed by Omaha-based Paul G. Smith Associates, has acquired property in downtown Des Moines, Iowa, that includes a 12-story building occupied by the Surety Hotel, according to Business Record. The LLC acquired the building from Chicago-based Aparium Hotel Group for $31.6 million on September 18. The 137-key hotel opened in November 2020 after a $40 million renovation from Aparium.

Mandarin Oriental golf resort in Dubai. Mandarin Oriental is introducing the 121-key Mandarin Oriental Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai, which is the company’s first dedicated golf resort with branded residences and its third property in the city. Scheduled to open in 2030, the resort will be within the Jumeirah Golf Estates, the Next Chapter. There will be 97 branded residences ranging from three- to six-bedroom villas.

RIU debuts in Canada. Palma, Spain-based RIU Hotels & Resorts has opened a 352-key Riu Plaza hotel in Toronto, marking the company’s entry into Canada. The Riu Plaza Toronto occupies 23 floors of one of the towers, while the remaining floors in that building are designated for residential use.

Houston rebrand. The Blossom Hotel Houston is joining the Curio Collection by Hilton on September 30. Upon joining the soft brand, the property will be managed by Fairfax, Virginia-based Crescent Hotels & Resorts.

Bob W adds in Munich. Helsinki, Finland-based Bob W has signed a long-term lease for a serviced apartment building in Munich’s Arnulfpark, marking the operator’s fifth property in the city. Formerly operated as a boarding house, the property is expected to open as a Bob W later this winter. Four floors will be converted into fully furnished studio and one-bedroom apartments for both short- and long-term stays.

Wyndham adds Ramada in India. Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is partnering with Shilit Hospitality LLP to develop the 80-key Ramada by Wyndham Darbhanga, which is scheduled to open in September 2027. Wyndham currently has over 90 operating hotels and approximately 50 hotels in the pipeline in the Eurasia region.
