Marriott
adds in Shenzhen. Marriott International has signed an agreement with Shum Yip Holdings Co. Ltd. to introduce The Luxury Collection and AC Hotels by Marriott to
Shenzhen, a coastal city situated in southern China. The 173-key The Luxury
Collection Hotel in Shenzhen and the 207-key AC Hotel by Marriott Shenzhen
North Station are scheduled to open in November 2028.
Capella adds in Seoul. Singapore-based Capella Hotel Group is partnering with Seoul, South Korea-based Heonin Town Development Ltd. to open the Capella Residences Seoul in 2027.
AAHOA
against LA minimum wage increase. AAHOA (Asian American Hotel Owners Association), which
represents 1,165 hotel owners in the Greater Los Angeles Area, said it has
voiced strong opposition to the Los Angeles City Council's proposed minimum
wage increase for hotel workers, which would raise wages to $30 per hour, along
with an additional $8 per hour for healthcare. AAHOA said a recent economic
impact study supporting this measure is fundamentally flawed, inaccurately
concluding that the hotel industry can absorb such a drastic increase.
Sonesta
opens 100th. Newton,
Massachusetts-based Sonesta International Hotels Corp. is opening the 54-key
Sonesta Essential Beaumont, Texas, the 100th Sonesta-branded hotel since
franchising was introduced for the company in late 2021. Sonesta has
approximately 1,100 properties across 13 brands in eight countries.
60th St.
Regis. Marriott is
opening its 60th St. Regis hotel globally with the 192-key The St. Regis on the
Bund, Shanghai in China. Singapore-based Pacific Eagle Real Estate owns the
hotel.
Minor
adds first NH in Bangkok. Minor Hotel is partnering with Boulevard Hotel Co. Ltd. to add its first
NH hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, with the 315-key NH Bangkok Sukhumvit Boulevard.
There are over 230 NH properties globally, mainly in Europe and the Americas.
Northern
Ireland golf resort sells. The Slieve Russell Hotel, Golf & Country Club in Northern Ireland
has been sold to Australia-based Brady Group for a reported €30 million,
according to Golf Business News. The resort was put on the market in April on
behalf of the liquidators of the Irish Bank Resolution Co. The Brady Group
is owned by Cavan, Northern Ireland-born Tony Brady. The 300-acre property
first opened in 1990 and has been under the control of the Irish Bank
Resolution Corp. since 2011. According to the story, it has remained
profitable, and around €7.5 million has been invested in upgrading the resort,
which includes a 224-key hotel, an 18-hole championship golf course, a
nine-hole par three course and a driving range.
TROO adds
in London. Salford,
U.K.-based TROO Hospitality is partnering with Immersive Hospitality Management
to manage its first property in Central London with the 388-key Corus Hotel
Hyde Park. It will be the largest property in the TROO Hospitality portfolio.
TROO has 10 hotels in the U.K.
Apex adds
in Scotland. Edinburgh, Scotland-based Apex Hotels has acquired The Vineyard Hotel in
Newbury, Scotland, for an undisclosed amount. Apex now owns 10 hotels in the U.K. and this is the third country house hotel following the recent purchase of Pine
Trees in Pitlochry and Meldrum House Country Hotel and Golf Course in
Aberdeenshire.
