Among
the noteworthy deals of the past week was Sega Sammy Holdings' sale
of the Phoenix Seagaia Resort in Japan to Fortress Investment Group.
MIYAZAKI, Japan — Toyko-based Sega Sammy Holdings Inc. said on May 10 that it
will sell its subsidiary Phoenix Resort Co., which operates the Phoenix Seagaia
Resort in Miyazaki, Japan, to New York City-based Fortress Investment Group for
an undisclosed price.
Sega Sammy Holdings is a gaming and entertainment company behind the
popular “Sonic the Hedgehog” video game franchise and said it was selling the
company and resort to better focus on its core strengths.
The 743-key Phoenix Seagaia Resort opened in 1993 and has recently returned to
profitability after suffering during the pandemic. Sega Sammy initially
acquired the resort in 2012.
